The “Stanton Loop” is the nickname of a proposed 6.8-mile high-pressure natural gas pipeline slated to pass through Union, Franklin, and Clinton Townships in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
The Stanton Loop would form a branch of the Northeast Supply Link, a pipeline system extending from Washington, D.C. to Boston, and providing gas to major cities in between.
The proposed pipeline would pass through 90 private residences, in many cases being only 20 feet from the property owners’ homes. It would pass through parks and preserved farmland. It would need to pass under the south branch of the Raritan River, as well as dangerously near to both Spruce Run and Round Valley reservoirs, both located in Clinton Township; these three bodies of water, which together have a more than 66 billion gallon annual capacity, are important sources of drinking water for New Jersey.
