Writer, GE Schwartz and Composer/ Media Artist, Damian Catera will perform consTELLations, a multimedia exploration of humankind's relationship with the stars. This unique event will be part of the INSAP Conference (Art Inspired by Astronomical Phenomena) , and will take place in the Adler Planetarium's Sky Theater. The Adler opened in 1930 and is the oldest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere.
This planetarium show manipulates and combines poetry about the cosmos from a variety of different periods and cultures and, through this bricolage, creates a dialogue between the different poems. The resulting new work–one which allows the subject matter to tell its own story–offers an opportunity to contemplate and interrogate the starry sky.
Schwartz's recitation will be composed primarily of recontextualized, appropriated writings about the stars, gleaned from works of several centurys. Catera will manipulate Schwartz's voice in real-time with his deCompositional approach, while texturing that with processed guitar sounds, all spatialized in a multi-speaker live surround-sound format. Catera has also produced a video which will be projected on the planetarium dome in conjunction with a Zeiss projector star show.
Showtime is 2:30 pm.
